Post #7: Planning My Future Website
Steps to a Successful Website
It is easier to succeed in your plans when you have a clear path and plan of action for what you want to do. The same applies for when you are developing a website, business, or portfolio. You should first build a website map which documents what components you want on your website; consider that the most important components are user services, a header & footer, navigation links, and widgets that further expand upon your marketing efforts.
After that, you should work on designing the "Wireframe" of your website, which can be done digitally or with plain pencil & paper.
Finally, you should aim to have your website be a solution. Your website's architecture should be user-friendly, and your intentions should be made clear with your calls to action such as a newsletter, or offering free consultations.
Planning for My Own Hypothetical Business
While I don't have the ambition or will to start a business of my own, It's still a good thought experiment to plan out a website for a made-up business. If I were to have a business of my own, it would center around software development, a stable market in today's world.
The most important things I would have to include on my website are links to pricing, information about the company, and ways to contact me or other associates.
The home page should leave a good impression on a business owner who is looking to hire someone to develop software that makes running their business more efficient; so as such, previous customers' testimonials should be listed and a brief overview of what software was developed for them.
